CFD credibility depends on the modelling chain

ANSYS can produce detailed flow fields, but the research value depends on the physical model, discretisation, boundary conditions, numerical stability and the evidence used to judge convergence.

What can be reviewed

  • Geometry simplifications and their consequences.
  • Mesh resolution, local refinement and mesh-independence planning.
  • Boundary and initial conditions and whether they reflect the intended system.
  • Turbulence, thermal or multiphase model assumptions where relevant.
  • Residuals, monitored quantities and other convergence evidence.
  • Comparison with analytical, experimental or published evidence when an appropriate reference exists.

No single residual threshold proves that every CFD result is valid. The appropriate checks depend on the model and the quantity being studied.
